Groton Dunstable Education Foundation

Roles are Cast for Dinner, Drama and Dessert!

GDRSD’s own drama director, Christina Chadzynski, has successfully cast players for Robin Hawdon's adaptation of Marc Camoletti's comedy "Don't Dress for Dinner," a play that will be presented in the Black Box Theater at the high school on April 29th and 30th as part of the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation’s (GDEF) Spring 2005 fundraiser, DINNER, DRAMA AND DESSERT!

The play has been a huge success on stages everywhere since it was first introduced in London in 1991.  In the story, Bernard (played by Groton resident Larry Lickteig) is planning a cozy weekend with his mistress.  He's booked a Cordon Bleu cook, and his best friend Robert (John Dingle of Dunstable) will provide the perfect alibi.  There's just one slight problem - his wife! Originally scheduled to spend the weekend at her mother's, Jacqueline (Lezli Whitehouse of Ayer) cancels the trip at the last minute, throwing Bernard's plans into complete disarray.  Chaos and confusion reign as Bernard juggles his wife, his mistress Suzanne (Sandy Munroe of Dunstable), the cook Suzette (Pat Lawrence of Groton), and the cook's husband George (played by Darrell Icenogle of Dunstable) - leaving the hapless Robert to take all the blame! It's an evening filled with mistaken identities, bribery and deception as plans go disastrously awry . . .  and promises to draw more than a few rounds of laughter and applause from all who attend.

“I am really very excited about the cast,” said Director Christina Chadzynski after the final casting decisions had been made.  “They have a good balance of experience and I am really looking forward to working with them.”  Darrell Icenogle mentioned his surprise at having been selected for the role of George, (a burly guy who arrives on the scene to pick up his wife, the cook), saying, “I went to the high school to drop my son off at basketball practice, and the next thing I knew, I had a script in my hands.”  John Dingle commented on his good fortune in landing the role of Robert, since he had shown up at the auditions late, without any black & white glossy photos and a woefully short acting resume.  Veteran actor Larry Lickteig quipped, “A production that combines comedy, sex, and school fundraising? How could I resist?” But seriously, the members of the cast all seem to be very enthusiastic about the play! They have already begun learning their lines and are working out an aggressive schedule for rehearsals between now and the end of April.

In addition to what promises to be an outstanding theatrical performance, the DINNER, DRAMA AND DESSERT! event will include an opportunity to join friends for hors d'oeuvres and dinner at the Stonehedge Inn's award winning restaurant on Friday evening, or a chance on Saturday to hear the premiere of an original music composition by Sean O'Laughlin, performed by the High School band and chorus.   An opportunity to socialize and enjoy a selection of gourmet desserts will follow each performance of the play.
