Media Release The Groton Dunstable Education Foundation Announces “Bet Your Lucky Stars” Fundraiser Save the date! The “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow” is at the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation’s next exciting event, Bet Your Lucky Stars, to be held on Friday evening, March 24th from 6:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. The event will take place at the new Marriott at Devens Common Center, and will include a dinner dance, silent and live auctions, and a money raffle. All proceeds will benefit the Foundation and the students of the Groton Dunstable Regional School District. “We’re very excited to be working with Marriott in their beautiful new facility at Devens,” says Alice Anne Barbo, chairperson for the event. “This evening will offer something for everyone, with delicious food, select auction items, and an outstanding band. Also, for the first time we will be offering the option of on line ticketing by credit card, making it a breeze to order your tickets!” An elegant sit-down dinner will be followed by dancing to music from the award-winning Jeff Pitchell & Texas Flood. Jeff’s lively blues style has taken him to the Top Ten on Billboard’s Blues chart. “No one will be able to stay off the dance floor once Jeff starts to play!” exclaims Mrs. Barbo. The silent and live auctions will feature some very special items, including a guitar signed by the band, Indian Hill Orchestra tickets, a portrait photography package, a selection of fine wines, and gift certificates for area fine dining. “We have some wonderful items already donated,” says GDEF’s Director of Fundraising Janet Sheffield, “but we can always use a few more!” If you have a unique item that you would like to donate as an auction item for this worthy cause, please contact Janet by email at jsheffield@gdefinc.org or by phone at (978) 448-5591. The event will also mark the official launch of GDEF’s Bet Your Lucky Stars money raffle, with cash prizes of $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000. Three lucky winners will be chosen on Thursday, May 25th. Tickets for the event go on sale on February 6th. Dinner dance tickets are $60.00 per person, and can be ordered through GDEF’s website at www.gdefinc.org on-line using a credit card, or by printing out and returning the Dinner Dance Ticket Order Form with a check. Raffle tickets are $50.00 each and can be ordered by contacting raffle chairperson Cheryl Smith by email at csmith@gdefinc.org or by phone at (978) 448-0213. Order forms for combined dinner dance & raffle ticket orders are also available at www.gdefinc.org, or at Moison Ace Hardware on Main Street in Groton and at the Dunstable Free Public Library in Dunstable. Raffle ticket orders cannot be mailed, but may be dropped at either of these locations. Attendees of previous GDEF events can expect information on the event in their mailboxes in early February. To date, the Foundation has awarded sixty-four grants totalling more than $107,000 to enhance the education of children in the district.
